About me

When I was an undergraduate studying creative writing and journalism at the University of Illinois, people often asked me what I wanted to do when I finished school.

My standard reply: “I want to write and get paid for it.”

Since graduating in 2006, I’ve been lucky enough to do just that, currently as assistant metro editor and projects coordinator at The State Journal-Register in  Springfield, Ill.,  and a freelance journalist, writer, editor and researcher.

I have a B.A. in creative writing and a B.S. and an M.S. in journalism, all  from Illinois, and I’m a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors.

My work has been honored by the Illinois Press Association and the University of Illinois Department of Journalism.
